IVF is one of the most effective types of fertility treatment because it allows intended parents to bypass many barriers to parenthood. After deciding to move forward, the intended mother takes ovulation induction medications with regular bloodwork and ultrasound monitoring at our clinic. When eggs mature, she undergoes a gentle egg retrieval under anesthesia/sedation. An embryologist fertilizes the retrieved eggs with sperm from the intended father or donor. Egg retrieval is a rapid procedure taking approximately 20–30 minutes, depending on the number and accessibility of follicles.

Is the egg retrieval painful?

Retrievals are performed under sedation administered by anesthesiologists. Patients are asleep, feel absolutely nothing, remember nothing, and do not require breathing tubes, avoiding typical general anesthesia nausea.

Is bed rest recommended after embryo transfer?

Strict bed rest is not necessary for conception. Routine light activity is encouraged, though rest is recommended if there is a risk of Ovarian Hyperstimulation (OHSS).

What are the chances of multiples with IVF?

With elective single embryo transfer (eSET), overall multiple rates are minimized. When multiple embryos are transferred, multiple pregnancy rate is 25–30% (mostly twins, triplets ~5%, quadruplets <1%).
